FAQ

What should I be aware of when recording videos?

Do not close this tab, as it is receiving and processing media data. Also, do not close the target video, and let it play.

Why are there multiple segments generated when recording videos?

In fact, "recording" does not mean capturing the video footage; it records the buffer data generated during video playback. Many online videos switch resolutions based on your network conditions. When the recorder receives data of different resolutions, it generates new segments. If you don't want the video to be segmented, you can set a fixed resolution before starting the recording (if the target video offers this option) to prevent automatic resolution switching.

On the other hand, due to memory limitations, the recorder automatically segments when the content exceeds a certain size (approximately 1GB). You should save the completed segments as soon as possible to prevent data loss due to insufficient memory.

What types of videos can this tool record?

It can record streaming videos such as HLS videos, fragmented MP4 videos, and it also supports recording online live streams. For static videos (directly played using the video tag like MP4 or WEBM), the recording feature is unavailable.

Why can’t the recorded videos play locally?

If your video plays well on the webpage but cannot be played after downloading to your computer, it is likely a video encoding issue. The recorder preserves the original encoding format of the video data without re-encoding. Currently, many videos use H265 (HEVC) encoding, which may not be supported by your player. In this case, try using a different player or install the necessary codecs for your player.

Why does the recording show no errors, but the downloaded video is only a short segment?

This error may be caused by two reasons: first, the target video data is not output according to technical standards; second, the target video buffer data might be encrypted, both of which can lead to incorrect parsing of data by the application, resulting in an erroneous video file.

How can I speed up the recording process?

The faster the target video buffers, the quicker the recording. To speed up the recording process, make the video load buffer data faster. You can speed up playback or adjust the playback progress to the latest position of the buffer bar to accelerate buffering. However, be careful not to move the playback progress to a time point where the buffer bar has not yet reached, as this may prevent the application from processing the data correctly.

Another point to note is that if your recording target is a live stream, you cannot speed up the recording because live streams are real-time and do not preload media buffer data.

Is this a free tool?

Yes! You only need to install the extension in your browser without any registration or login requirements to use it. You can download videos as many times as you want without any limits!

Does MPMux store downloaded videos or retain copies of them?

No! MPMux does not host your videos, retain copies of downloaded videos, or store your download history on the server. All video download tasks are completed in your browser without going through a third-party server, ensuring your privacy is protected!
