MPMux

Static Video Downloader

This tab features a static video downloader (for MP4, WEBM, and other non-streaming formats) powered by the MPMux extension. It loads media files using segmented concurrent requests to achieve faster download speeds. Once all segments are loaded, the downloader merges them into a single file and presents a save button.

Instructions

Concurrent Requests

When the target file is large, the downloader uses Range request headers to download it in segments. You can set the number of concurrent requests (up to 3). In theory, more concurrent requests result in faster downloads.

Policy and Ads

The extension this downloader relies on is hosted on the Chrome Web Store and Edge Add-ons site, and complies with their respective policies. The downloader captures and requests publicly available media data over HTTP. It does not apply any special treatment to specific websites, nor does it bypass any technical restrictions. This tool simply offers a practical solution using well-known methods, and we assume no responsibility for the content users download. Please be mindful of copyright issues when downloading media.

This is a free tool and may display advertisements, as maintaining website servers and CDN services requires funding. Thank you for your understanding!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a static video?

“Static video” here does not refer to a video without animations showing only a single image. Generally, “static video” refers to non-streaming videos, meaning they are not fragmented and can be played directly in the HTML5 Video tag without the need for third-party libraries, such as MP4, WEBM, Ogg. These videos can be downloaded using MPMux.

Why are there so many MP4 or WEBM detected on one page?

If your target video uses fragmented MP4 or WEBM, it will continuously load new video segments, which may be detected by the extension. In this case, the video should not be considered a “static video,” and you cannot download it completely with the “Static Video Downloader.” You can try using MPMux’s “Recording Mode” to convert the video’s buffer data into an MP4 file.

Why can’t the downloaded video be played locally?

If the video plays on the webpage but cannot be played after downloading it to your computer, it is likely an issue with the video encoding. Currently, many videos use H265 (HEVC) encoding, which may not be supported by your player. In this case, you can try using a different player or installing the necessary codec for your player.

Why does the video download automatically pause?

The “Static Video Downloader” from MPMux splits the media file into multiple segments and sends download requests. If a request fails, it will automatically retry. When the number of failed requests is too high, the download task will automatically pause to avoid unnecessary resource consumption. The reason for failed requests is usually because the video server does not allow excessively frequent requests. In this case, you should reduce the number of concurrent requests in the settings. Another possible reason could be network request timeouts. An additional reason could be that the target server does not support segmented requests.

Why can’t you download directly and need to open a new tab?

The “Static Video Downloader” from MPMux is designed for downloading large files. By downloading in a new tab, files can be segmented and parallel requests can be made, significantly increasing download speed and reducing download time.

On the other hand, if media resources have restrictions on request headers, direct download from the browser will be rejected because it does not contain the correct request headers.

Is this a free tool?

Yes! You just need to install the extension in your browser without the need for registration or login. You can download videos as many times as you want, without limitations!

Does MPMux store downloaded videos or keep copies of the videos?

No! MPMux does not host your videos and does not keep copies of the downloaded videos. It also does not save download history on the server. All video download tasks are performed in your browser and are not processed through third-party servers, ensuring your privacy!
